Even before the recent earthquakes, Nepal has long been one of the world’s poorest and least developed countries. Despite the popularity of the country as a destination for international tourism, half the local population live below the poverty line, and opportunities for individuals to access even basic education and, beyond that, decent employment are extremely limited.
You will be working alongside communities who have been devastated by the recent natural disasters and will be helping them to return to normality, as well as supporting much needed renovation work in the area
Volunteering in Kathmandu with your group will give valuable help to families from the poorest communities
Depart from the UK and arrive at Kathmandu’s busy international airport (before midday) where you will be met by a member of our local team and transferred to your accommodation. Here you can settle in and get a feel for the area and acclimatise. You will receive an induction and welcome meal.
This challenge involves supporting local children in the rural area of Kathmandu Valley whilst also working on the recovery effort in the community. Aside from teaching English and whatever other subjects you may want in our partner schools you will be helping with our long-term development projects to get the community back on track after the 2015 earthquake and ensure that they are prepared should another disaster like this happen again. On the weekend you are able to travel independently and explore the surrounding area, the in-country team will be more than happy to point you in the right direction towards anything you want to do.
Depending upon your international flight back to the UK, you will be transferred to Kathmandu airport for your flight home or onwards travel.
