Leadership Challenge

Leadership Challenge
The Challenge of Leadership
…a personal challenge to experience, to interpret and to make a difference…

There are untold books and theories on Leadership with inspirational statements and biographies of role models and historical figures – all provide the opportunity to build knowledge with insight towards the skills required.

However in reality, leadership is a continuous process of acquiring knowledge and turning it into actions that provide direction, engage and build trust with people and enable them to deliver sustainable results. Too often leaders in organisations know the theory, don’t put it into practice and deliver adequate results.

The Challenge of Leadership offers:

  • An innovative and inspirational combination of learning and “making a difference”, which delivers remarkable results for everyone involved……and the results really matter!
  • A potential edge over others by developing leaders able to think and act more effectively; to be more creative, decisive and self-aware working in a truly diverse environment.
  • To make Corporate Social Responsibility a visible and practical reality by making a tangible difference in overseas communities where your organisation may want to increase its profile

Some examples of challenges:

“In Calcutta, charitable organisations work extremely hard to fill the gap between State and private provision of education. Your Challenge is to work with such an organisation that operates informal schools in community centres giving basic education, with limited resources to slum children of mixed ages. Your role is to work with the organisation, to review their funding, their efficiency and effectiveness and to help them make sustainable improvements”

“In Tanzania, rural education is seen as important and it is growing. Your Challenge is to work with the local community and help construct a new classroom. Your role will be to engage fully in the planning and construction of an innovative learning environment for use by children and the community as a whole.”

Who can participate?

Individual or group programmes can be designed for people in any organisation and at any level. The programmes we offer are of various durations; they can be as short as a week, others are generally from 10-15 days and may extend up to 3 months depending on personal or organisational goals and the scope of the community project undertaken. Programme examples include:

The Challenge is a process…

Each Challenge is an experiential learning process; this is the process by which an individual gains insight and takes meaning from reflective analysis of direct active involvement in an experience. We use experienced facilitators who promote self-reflection and increased personal awareness; they will challenge preconceptions and traditional ways of thinking through constructive, timely feedback processes. The aim is to enable behavioural transformation in individuals and teams as they deliver a demanding project that brings tangible benefits to the local community. In broad terms each programme has the following structure:

The Challenge is an investment…
Make no mistake – the Challenge, whatever its nature, requires a willingness to engage and learn and invest personal time, energy and intellect throughout the process to achieve a goal that will enrich the lives of a community.

In financial terms there are many variables to give precise costs of a Challenge as these depend, for example, on individual locations, the Challenge venue and type of activity involved. Therefore, each programme is costed individually for clients based on their specific needs etc.

However, for illustrative purposes only – a one-week Challenge with a group of 10 people will cost in the region of £2,500 to £3,000 per person plus flights to the agreed international venue.

This price includes all food and accommodation during the Challenge, all in-country transport and the material cost of the project where appropriate. It also covers the meetings before or after the Challenge plus all administration, programme design, facilitator and learning support costs.

The price does not include: -

  • Flights from home location to the chosen Challenge country
  • Insurance, which must be covered by the sponsoring individual or organisation with comprehensive cover highlighting to insurers that people are volunteering on international projects.
  • The cost of vaccinations or visa necessary for travel to international locations

Every effort will be made to minimise the risk to individuals who participate in the Challenge programmes. However, where organisations have risk policies and procedures their employees must comply with them and any issues discussed at the initial workshop stage so plans can be made and, where necessary adapted accordingly.
